Overview

Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC) is a semi-autonomous body of the Government of Punjab, established under Punjab Seed Corporation Act 1976.

Punjab Seed Corporation is Pioneer in seed business of Pakistan having 43 years of experience with sound financial position and largest infrastructure. Core functions include procurement, processing, production and marketing and distribution of seeds of high quality seeds with the objective to enhance agricultural produce and make the province agriculturally self-sufficient and sustainable.

The Punjab Seed Corporation’s brand Shahzore and its Logo of a Stallion bust with the caption “Shahzor” is well known to the farming community all over the country. Presence of the PSC and Shahzor Logo on any sack of seed is the guarantee of high quality seed. Due to its effort in promoting the agriculture in Punjab and also PSC is appreciated by various national and international bodies and agencies including the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Growth and Innovation

Our Legacy of Growth and Innovation

  • 1947 - Pakistan's Seed Sector Begins
    Seed sector operations are informal and decentralised. At the time of Pakistan's establishment, seeds were produced and distributed by agricultural extension departments, with minimal organization.
  • 1961 - Formation of WAPDC
    WAPDC established for integrated agricultural development. WAPDC was entrusted with seed production and distribution but dissolved in 1972 due to inefficient marketing.
  • 1976 - Establishment of Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC)
    PSC is established to streamline seed production, procurement, processing, and distribution. Established under the Punjab Seed Corporation Act, PSC’s mission is to enhance agricultural yield and promote high-quality seed use across Punjab.
  • 1980s - Growth & Recognition
    PSC begins receiving recognition from international bodies like the World Bank and FAO for its contribution to agricultural development. Through continuous efforts, PSC became a key player in Pakistan’s seed sector, contributing to improved agricultural outputs.
  • 2000s - Expansion of Seed Varieties
    PSC expands its variety offerings, including both major and minor crops. 2020s - New Initiatives for Vegetables & Pulses

Punjab Seed Corporation (PSC) provides Quality seed duly certified by Federal Seed Certification & Registration Department to the farmers at best affordable price. PSC is also a secretariat of Punjab Seed Council, an apex body that approves new varieties for general cultivation in Punjab. PSC is also striving for establishment of a professional seed industry in Punjab through provision of support and enabling environment to private seed companies.

Our Functions

Core functions of PSC include procurement, processing, production and marketing of high quality seeds with the objective to enhance agricultural production and make the province agriculturally self sufficient and sustainable:
  • Procurement and import of Pre-basic seed;
  • Production and proper multiplication of basic seed;
  • Multiplication, procurement, processing, bagging and storage of certified seed;
  • Adequate marketing of certified seed through both the public and private sector;
  • Export of the certified seed when possible after meeting the national requirements;
  • Taking over and managing the Punjab Agricultural Development Supplies Corporation Seed Farms as directed by the Government on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed;
  • Making suitable arrangements for the multiplication of seeds on private farms under its supervision;
  • Making suitable arrangements for the certification of seed in such manner as may be prescribed;
  • Taking all measures to promote the establishment of the seed industry in the Province;
  • Rendering technical advice and other services to its registered growers; and
  • Contributing towards the cost of any studies, services, experiment or technical research connected with the functions of the Corporation and undertaken or done by any other person, agency or body

Future Plans

Future Plans

  • Vegetables play a vital role in our diets, as these support the normal functioning of the different body systems.Under the instructions communicated by "Chief Minister Punjab"a project to enhance production of vegetables. Therefore,the basic purpose of the project is to enhance vegetable production in urban,semi urban & rural areas through diversification of high value vegetable crops in the province. The increase in production of vegetables would not only meet the increasing demand of the population of Punjab province on the one hand and also fetch share in foreign exchange earnings on other hand. Hence, the project "Enhancing Vegetable Production in Punjab" is under consideration
  • Chief Minster’s new initiative of enhancing Pulses production. Under this initiative, production of the most common kitchen pulses (mash, moung, masur, chana) will be boosted through provision of quality seed in requisite quantities.
  • Strengthening of Punjab Seed Corporation in south Punjab by establishing independent Regional Office at Multan to be headed by the Regional Director along with its full office strength to cater for seed needs of the Southern Punjab.
  • Further Punjab Seed Corporation will establish Mini Seed Processing Plants and Sales Centers at the following places of southern Punjab:
